Businesses flying high after Meet the Buyers

Summary

Local firms on track to secure almost £5million in deals at London Stansted Meet the Buyers

London Stansted Meet the Buyers 2016 has been hailed as the most successful ever with local firms on track to secure almost £5 million worth of new business.

A report carried out six months on from the event reveals that an anticipated £4.8 million worth of contracts involving companies from the East of England and the wider South East will be signed.

“We are absolutely delighted with the figures from our record breaking London Stansted Meet the Buyers 2016 event. This is yet another fantastic example of how Stansted can support local companies by providing a platform to come and talk with a wide range of businesses and showcase what they can offer in terms of products and services.

“The airport has a long and proud history of working in partnership with businesses to maximise and spread the economic benefits created by a major international transport hub. Our vision for Stansted is to successfully grow passenger numbers and promote more travel choices, invest in our infrastructure and enhance our interaction with the local community.”
Chris Wiggan, Stansted Airport’s Head of External Affairs

The event, which took place in October 2016, saw almost 200 businesses from small start-ups right through to larger companies attend in the hope of securing deals with organisations including National Express, Stansted Airport, Greater Anglia, NHS, Uttlesford District Council, Suffolk and Essex County Councils and the Ministry of Defence.

Engineering firm, Trueform, a supplier with offices in Hitchin, said London Stansted Meet the Buyers helped them win £200,000 contracts with Dyer and Butler, Mace and Abellio. Meanwhile document scanning business, RPJ Document Management from Harlow, came away with several leads and are in discussions that could result in contracts between £2,000 to £10,000.

Also attending as a supplier was Harlow IT firm, Akhter, who said the event helped them secure a contract for £2,500 just six weeks after the event with construction company Galliford Try, which was repeated again a few months later.

The 2017 London Stansted Meet the Buyers event is being staged at the Radisson Blu Hotel on November 1, from 10am until 4pm. 30 organisations have already signed up including McAleer & Rushe, Essex County Council, Morgan Sindall Group, NHS and Braintree District Council. As a precursor to the main event in November, the airport held an Understanding Airport Procurement seminar today (July 4) for 50 local small businesses to help them make the most of the opportunities at Meet the Buyers 2017.
