New Conservative parliamentary candidate visits London Stansted on fact-finding mission

London Stansted Airport welcomed the new Conservative parliamentary candidate for Saffron Walden, Kemi Badenoch, as she made her first official visit to the airport on Tuesday (May 9).

Mrs Badenoch made a fact-finding trip to the region’s biggest single site employer and enjoyed a behind the scenes guided tour of the airfield, control tower and its award winning Aerozone education centre. She had the opportunity to meet with young pupils from R.A. Butler Academy, who were visiting the Aerozone and learning about running a busy international airport.

She also spent time with airport officials to hear about how the airport is handling record passenger numbers and details about its ambitious development programme which includes a new £130m arrivals terminal.

Commenting on her visit, Kemi Badenoch, said:

"It was a delight to meet the team at Stansted and learn more about what the airport has to offer. The strong focus on education with the Aerozone facility and plans for an on-site college demonstrate an enduring commitment to local communities which I wholeheartedly commend. Should success come my way on June 8 I hope to maintain a good relationship with the airport in the years ahead."

Chris Wiggan, Stansted Airport’s Head of External Affairs, said:

"The airport was delighted to welcome Kemi and we hope that she left us better informed about all the work going on here at Stansted. The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the significant investment we are making to improve facilities and provide an update on our work to deliver an even greater choice of destinations for our passengers.”
