800 Harlow jobseekers flock to London Stansted Airport jobs fair

More than 800 jobseekers from Harlow and surrounding areas visited the Harlow Civic Centre on Wednesday (27 Feb), to find out about the hundreds of career opportunities currently up for grabs at London Stansted Airport.

Twenty-two companies based at the airport were on hand to showcase their roles and meet potential future employees at the London Stansted Airport Jobs Fair. Some of the companies looking to recruit at the event were National Express; Harrods Aviation; Ryanair; Swissport; Wetherspoons; Hampton by Hilton; and World Duty Free.

London Stansted regularly holds career events to show the region’s jobseekers the huge range of jobs and free training programmes available at the airport – the largest single-site employer in the East of England. There are currently 540 roles available, ranging from cabin crew and catering to retail and engineering.

Harlow is a key area for recruitment to the airport, which offers up to 80 per cent off public transport travel costs to all commuting on-site employees. The four-hour event was one of the busiest held, and recruiters were delighted with the attendance.

We are very impressed with how busy and well organised the event has been. We have found four or five genuinely promising candidates for cabin crew and a few who are interested in engineering. For us, being here has been very profitable and worthwhile and it is one of the busiest recruitment events we have been to.
Richard Oliver, Deputy Head of Cabin Crew at Titan Airways
We were delighted to be here. The event has been more than promising, we have at least 10 promising candidates. It’s a Lovely environment, great numbers, great layout and we’re looking forward to the next one.
Mario Shimbov, Recruitment Manager at JD Sports
These events are a valuable opportunity for us to showcase the many opportunities at the airport out in the key areas we hope to recruit from. London Stansted offers many roles and excellent career prospects in a dynamic industry, and the high number of visitors shows just how keen jobseekers are to meet potential employers face to face.
Marcela M’Rabety, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at London Stansted
We are delighted by the turnout of the jobs fair, with the amount of people attending exceeding our expectations. It has been great seeing the Council’s Civic Centre bustling with so many Harlow residents taking advantage of the job and career opportunities on offer from the range of companies that are part of Stansted Airport. Having a major international Airport within easy reach of Harlow provides hundreds of different career opportunities for local people. We want our residents to be aware of these opportunities and the discounted travel which is on offer so more consider a career working at the Airport.
Chair of Harlow Council, Councillor Maggie Hulcoop

The Jobs Fair was organised by the airport’s own Employment and Skills Academy and it follows the recent opening of the Stansted Airport College, a partnership with Harlow College, which will train the next generation of talent for the aviation industry.

Companies attending the Jobs Fair were: National Express; JD Sport; TRG; Harrods Aviation; Titan Airways; MoneyCorp; Universal Weather; Ryanair; Omniserv; HMS Host; Jet2; Pret A Manger; MAG; Swissport; Boots; Wetherspoons; Premier Work Support; Hampton by Hilton; Harlow College; Office of National Statistics; World Duty Free; Blue Handling.
