With the summer holidays entering their final weeks, London Stansted has highlighted five family-friendly destinations perfect for a late summer getaway.

The airport, which recently recorded its busiest-ever month after welcoming more than 3.1 million passengers in July, offers direct flights to more than 200 destinations across Europe and beyond.

For families looking for some last-minute inspiration, here are five destinations that combine sunshine, beaches and plenty to keep children entertained before September arrives.

1. Majorca, Spain

Best for: Classic family beach holidays.

Golden beaches, family-friendly resorts and plenty of sunshine continue to make Majorca one of the most popular destinations for Stansted passengers.

2. Sardinia, Italy

Best for: Exploring somewhere new.

Sardinia combines stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters and picturesque coastal towns. Families can now fly direct to Olbia thanks to BA CityFlyer's new service from Stansted.

3. Dalaman, Turkey

Best for: Guaranteed sunshine.

With warm weather, all-inclusive resorts and a beautiful coastline, Dalaman remains a favourite with families looking for a hassle-free summer break.

Turkey remains one of the most popular countries served from London Stansted.

4. Kos, Greece

Best for: Active family adventures.

Kos offers sandy beaches, cycling routes and plenty of opportunities to get out and explore.

The Greek island is now easier to reach than ever, with TUI now operating direct flights from Stansted.

5. Sicily, Italy

Best for: Food, culture and adventure

From the historic streets of Catania to the dramatic scenery of Mount Etna, Sicily offers a family holiday with a little bit of everything.

Italy is Stansted's best-served country, with flights to 30 destinations across the country.
