Staff lend a hand at community garden project

Staff from London Stansted swapped the terminal for trowels, rolling up their sleeves to help out at Human Roots, a community gardening project in Stansted Mountfitchet. 

The marketing team spent the afternoon weeding, clearing crops, and building a new bed for ericaceous plants. They also laid a path inside the fruit cage and gave the compost store a full makeover. 

Stephanie Chaker, Retail Marketing Lead at the airport, said:  

“It was a lovely afternoon, and it was great to meet the team and hear about the amazing work they do, especially with providing produce to local food banks. The experience made me appreciate how much physical work and knowledge goes into the maintenance and development of the Human Roots community garden.”  

Human Roots Chair Cathy Izzard added:  

“Human Roots is about growing food organically and sharing the wellbeing benefits of working outdoors. We were delighted to welcome staff from Stansted Airport to the allotment and could not have wished for a friendlier or more hard-working group. They took part enthusiastically in all the tasks we had planned and left with tote bags full of produce they helped pick.”  

Human Roots grows organic fruit and vegetables for local food banks and runs family workshops, including its popular Little Roots programme. The project promotes mental and physical wellbeing through gardening and community involvement.
