Stansted Airport’s dedicated employment academy relaunches

London Stansted Airport’s dedicated employment academy has officially relaunched, after the service was brought ‘in-house’ by the airport and re-branded.

Guests including Robert Halfon MP, on-site business partners, Harlow College, Job Centre Plus and current apprentices gathered to mark the occasion and celebrate a new phase for the service, which is now operating as part of Manchester Airports Group in partnership with Harlow College.

The Stansted Airport Employment and Skills Academy, based at Enterprise House next to the main terminal, in a one stop shop for anyone interested to find out about on-site vacancies. In addition; tailored aviation training programmes and apprenticeship schemes provide jobs seekers with an opportunity to effectively learn and gain necessary skills to enable them to secure employment with one of more than 200 on-site employers.

With more than 500 job vacancies regularly on offer at the airport, from pilot and cabin crew positions to engineering, maintenance and security roles, the Academy plays a key role in securing candidates for businesses and ensuring they are job ready.

By working closely with employers, as well as Harlow College, job-seekers are guided through available opportunities and the recruitment process.

With unemployment levels very low in the airport’s immediate surroundings, the Academy teams works hard to recruit locally but also from a wide catchment area, attending job fairs across the wider East Anglia and Greater London regions, and has a permanent presence in Tottenham Job Centre Plus.

Travel discounts of up to 80 per cent on trains and buses make Stansted an attractive employment opportunity, and the Academy enables those from across the region to access a range of careers.

Vesela Ivanova, Employment and Skills Manager, said:

We are delighted to mark the next stage in the Stansted Employment and Skills Academy with this official relaunch. The job opportunities across the airport and its business partners are endless and the opportunities will only grow as the airport expands.

Stansted Airport is the biggest single-site employer in the region offering the chance to work in sought-after industries including engineering, operations and hospitality, and the Academy is proud to play a crucial role in bringing in new talent. In recent years we have helped hundreds of people find roles here at the airport and we look forward to broadening the access to jobs and training in the future.

Harlow College is delighted to be the training partner for Stansted Academy. The relaunched Academy will provide a gateway for people seeking employment at the airport. Working together Harlow College and Stansted Airport are connecting experience, education, training and careers to ensure that people have the right skills and knowledge to step into the aviation workplace. Combined with the new College opening at the airport in September this is a strong partnership between Education and Industry to meet the needs of businesses across the airport, assisting in the growth of the regional economy.
