Summer campaign aims to boost breast cancer awareness

London Stansted is backing a breast cancer awareness campaign this summer that encourages women to regularly check themselves for signs of the disease.

The Check In & Check Yourself campaign, run by Prevent Breast Cancer and BooBee, will appear on digital screens across the airport from 20 July to early September, helping raise awareness among millions of passengers travelling during the school holidays.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK, with almost 60,000 new cases diagnosed every year. Research by Breast Cancer Now and YouGov found that nearly half (45%) of UK women do not regularly check their breasts, while more than one in 10 have never checked themselves at all.

The campaign encourages women to use the change in routine that often comes with a holiday as a reminder to check for anything unusual and seek medical advice if they have concerns.

Margo Cornish, Patron of the BooBee Campaign and Prevent Breast Cancer, said:

"Going on holiday can be a good opportunity to become more aware of your body and notice any changes that might otherwise go unseen. The campaign is about reminding women what to look for and encouraging them to check themselves regularly. We're very grateful to London Stansted for helping us share this important message with passengers travelling through the airport this summer."

Nikki Barraclough, Chief Executive of Prevent Breast Cancer, said:

"Early diagnosis is vital, which is why it's so important that women regularly check their breasts and speak to a doctor if they notice anything unusual. Regular checks could save your life."
