Transformation brings new jobs into focus at careers fair
Companies helping deliver London Stansted’s transformation project were among 30 employers meeting almost 1,800 jobseekers at the airport’s latest careers fair.
Construction firms Farrans and Laing O’Rourke attended the event, giving visitors the chance to find out about careers being created as work at the airport gathers pace.
They spoke to jobseekers about the projects they are delivering, the types of roles available and the skills needed to join their teams.
The fair, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel at London Stansted, brought together employers including DHL, Ryanair, UPS, Jet2, Mulberry and MAG Stansted, offering opportunities across aviation, customer service, retail, hospitality, logistics and engineering.
Nathan Mullane, the airport’s Employment and Skills Manager, said:
“It was fantastic to see so many people coming along to find out about the opportunities available at London Stansted. There’s a lot happening at the airport, and our transformation isn’t just about improving Stansted for passengers. It’s also creating opportunities for local people to build careers and develop new skills.
“Having companies delivering some of our biggest projects at the careers fair meant people could speak directly to them, hear about the work they’re doing and find out what opportunities are available. We want local people to benefit from the investment being made at Stansted and hopefully some of those who came along will go on to play a part in the airport’s future.”
Farrans is working on the construction of the airport’s new Skylink walkways, which will connect the terminal and the satellite buildings housing the departure and arrival gates.
The centrepiece of Stansted’s transformation is a three-bay extension to the existing terminal, adding 16,500m² of space and creating a brighter, more spacious environment with new shops, bars and restaurants.
Eddie Burton, Stakeholder and Social Value Manager at Farrans, said:
“We were really pleased to be part of this careers fair which gave us the chance to engage with local businesses as well as meet people interested in finding out more about the work we’re doing at London Stansted Airport. We’re currently recruiting for people to join our graduate and apprenticeship programmes with excellent opportunities for early careers candidates and more senior construction roles. Our award-winning graduate programme will have two intakes in 2027 beginning in June and September and applications are open now on our website.”
