New delivery director appointed for £600m transformation

London Stansted has appointed Gerry Whyte as Delivery Director for the airport’s multi-million pound transformation. In his new role Gerry will work closely with Business Change Director, Paul Willis, and take responsibility for overseeing and delivering the £600 million project which will significantly enhance the airport experience for passengers and airlines.

The transformation of London Stansted is one of the largest airport projects currently underway in the UK. Plans include a new arrivals terminal which is due to open in 2020 and the reconfiguration of the existing terminal into a departures only facility. It also features a revamped retail and restaurant offer, more seating, as well as new car parks and airfield infrastructure.

Gerry previously worked on some of the UK’s largest construction developments ranging from Edinburgh St James, Liverpool One and Bluewater in Kent. He most recently held the post of Preconstruction Director at Laing O’Rourke leading the team through the preconstruction phase of the retail expansion of Brent Cross. He will take up his post on Dec 3 reporting into the airport’s CEO, Ken O’Toole.

I’m really looking forward to joining the team at London Stansted. The transformation project is an exciting opportunity for me play a meaningful part in the continued growth of the airport.
Gerry Whyte, London Stansted's new Delivery Director
Gerry has a wealth of experience having worked in various high-profile construction projects so I’m delighted he’s joining us during this exciting time for the airport. The £600 million transformation of the airport is really gathering momentum. We’ve made fantastic progress so far, but it’s next year when the project really starts to take-off with work beginning on our £130m arrivals terminal which we expect to open in August 2020.
Ken O’ Toole, CEO of London Stansted
